Tax Credits for Donations Announced for 2020 and 2021

02-14-21. Good news. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced tax credits for donations made to charitable organizations for the 2020 and 2021 tax years.

Taxpayers issued tax credits for donations made to charitable organizations for 2020 and 2021 tax years.

For the 2020 tax year, taxpayers who take the standard deduction can deduct up to $300 of donations made to charitable organizations. Tax filers and preparers do not have to “itemize” this as it is referred to as an “above the line” deduction on your 2020 tax return.

For the 2021 tax year (and keep this in mind), taxpayers who take the standard deduction and are married, filing jointly, can deduct up to $600 on their 2021 tax return.

The deductions do not reduce your adjusted gross income, but they certainly will help. This is great news as many people continue to struggle throughout this pandemic.

Be sure to mention this to your accountant when filing your taxes if they do not offer this information up.

If anyone needs a Contribution Statement, please feel free to contact the church office to request one.
