Despite the uncooperative weather today, St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston, WV made a “splash” by participating in the annual Miracle on Main Street Festival held in downtown Weston, WV.
Gusty winds and scattered showers were unpreventable, however numerous members of the church showed up to help volunteer and make the festival a magical and wonderful experience for the community.
There was literally something for everyone. From the St. Matthew UMC parking lot located in a prime spot on Main Avenue, there was plenty of space to host many activities such as giving away free hot chocolate, cookies and candy canes, plus, there was a S’mores station complete with a fire pit, a Veteran’s Christmas Card workshop, a Christmas ornament creation workshop, a photo booth with a Winter Wonderland backdrop, Salvation Army bell ringing and St. Matthew’s glorious choir performed wonderful Christmas carols for all to hear. Oh, and we can’t forget to mention that Frosty the Snowman was on site and there was even a Grinch sighting!
Several of St. Matthew’s church groups participated and each hosted a particular activity. It was an absolute wonderful thing to see the Christmas spirit light up the church parking lot with so much love, hope and faith. There was so much cheer and fellowship throughout the day. And, despite the rain, several people from the community showed up to visit all of the various Christmas activities that St. Matthew had to offer.
A big thank you goes out to the St. Matthew United Methodist Women, St. Matthew United Methodist Men, the Sew Much Good Group, the Choir, the Youth Group and to all of those who helped volunteer time and effort in making this a wonderful Christmas experience for our little Weston town. And, a big thank you also goes out to Trena Williams who helped orchestrate and coordinate all of the various activities.
The church looks forward to helping contribute to the Miracle on Main Street once again in 2023–see you then!
St. Matthew wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas!
